Cardboard Folly (Print): ISSN 2044-9771

Cardboard Folly is a non-profit publication, published bi-annually, that sits somewhere between an artist’s book and journal. The core of the publication is an interest in the use of architecture and inhabited space in art.

Each issue will be themed, the first issue was ‘The Fold’ and the second will be 'Tension'. Artists, writers, poets, architects and others are invited to make an editioned work in response to this. Housed in a screen-printed cardboard box of some kind, each cover will be custom-made to fit the contributions in that particular issue.

Cardboard Folly is a printed thing, but some of issue one can be viewed online and putting more of future issues (included full texts) is a priority. Each issue will be printed in a small edition (the first was 45), with all contributors receiving a copy and several being archived and reserved for exhibiting. Cardboard Folly is also deposited in the British Library. The remaining copies will be for sale, with all profits going back into the publication. There will be a discount available for libraries and collections wishing to purchase a copy.

The first issue launched at the Bluecoat, Liverpool during Liverpool Biennial 2010 and was on display there from 21st October - 14th November. The ‘Fold’ issue also travelled to Manchester Artists’ Book Fair at Manchester Metropolitan University and to the BABE artists’ book event during April 2011 at the Arnolfini, Bristol. Keep your eyes peeled for issue two towards the end of this year.
